New painting palette - large and wonderful, plus adorable magnetic pacifier dummy

Website Translation Widget
Website Translation Widget

I got a paint palette from Lyn at Lynk Nursery and this palette is niiiiice and big! If you are tired of the little tiny wells in the gold-colored aluminum ones, then check out this large one here http://lynkproducts.com.au/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=99
I can't wait to use mine!! I gotta start a new baby on Monday, just so I can use this - it's going to be so nice to be able to have my base colors, my mix, and then my mix thinned. woo-whoo!!!

And while you're at Lyn's store, check out her dummy pacifiers (no, they are not dumb, they just aren't real, they are prop pacifiers LOL). The magnet is in a little pocket, so it's easy to slip out to keep out or to flip it to whatever side works for your reborn baby. They also come with an extra magnet, so you can add it to your doll and have the option of giving it a pacifier :)

I never knew shipping from Australia could be so fast - she mailed it out the next day and I got it 7 days later - and this is almost Christmas! It takes longer from mail to get here to Maryland from Ohio, our home state.

Lyn, you are awesome! Thank you!!

I am now also on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/edenslittleones

And I updated my website to have a page for the dedication of the nursery name: http://www.edenslittleones.com/History-of-nursery-name.php
This page tells why I named my nursery Eden's Little Ones - I wanted people to know and also to show how thankful I am to the Lord for this gift.

Trying new things

Website Translation Widget
Website Translation Widget

Ok, here is a picture of my first attempt at sculpting a mini baby. Needless to say, I don't seem to have natural talent in this area. Maybe someday I'll take a course, get a dvd, book, something, and try some more. For now, felt the itch to try - did try - and now the itch is gone. lol I'll stick with the painting the sculpts.

Also, I found out that Genesis does very well on fabric (reading up on Genesis through different places online). So I tried it out on this onesie. Talk about a pain - onesie fabric is stretchy and thin and fuzzy. I will be trying this again, but on a different fabric - then maybe iron it onto a onesie LOL Still, reborning is what I love best.

But is was fun trying new things - only spent about an hour on each, so just a nice small break. :)

A new article of mine has been published on the following website:

I have also added all my articles, and links, to my website. That way everyone can read them (if they want, lol, just my 2 cents) and I won't lose track of them.

Now Eden's Little Ones website can be read in many laguages!

Well, that's the idea anyways. LOL Since I don't know any other language, except for minimum Latin, I can't test it out. If anyone knows another language, I'd love some feedback on if it's working or not.

I'm excited about this, since I've visited so many sites that aren't in English and wish I could do more than just look at the pictures.

Showing in Waldorf, MD tomorrow

Eden's Little Ones is going to have a table at a craft fair in Waldorf tomorrow, at the St. Peter's school, from 8:30 - 2:30. They have over 80 vendors, all handcrafted items, and are filling the entire school with them. Sounds like they are going all-out, with Christmas music, decorations, and even naming halls (such as "Candy Cane Lane"). The front doors will be open to the public, with a greeter and many workers if anyone needs help. I can't wait, sounds like a ton of fun!

I'm back now - went well. Slow but steady trickle of people. Handed out lots of cards and little Mia got adopted. Yay for Mia! She's going to be very loved in her new home :)

Helping a friend and having fun

A friend of mine hired someone to make her a website, but the lady never finished the job and also didn't seem to know what she was doing with part of it. So tonight I helped her figure out how to log in and also made her a few mini-tutorials, so she can fix it up.

I was aching to get my hands on that site, LOL, but she wanted to fix it herself. That's cool, at least I got to do a couple of things and make her tutorial so she can get her website doing what she needs it to do :)

It cheered up both of us, which I greatly needed after this cold day, and feels good to be able to help someone out a little.

Her name is Tina, a new reborn artist, and her nursery name is Tina's Cuddly Angels.

I'm eager to check out her website in a few days and see how it's coming :)

Craft fair was a big disappointment

So I went to the craft fair today, expecting to sell one baby and hoping to sell all seven, but even if didn't would at least get to hand out lots of business cards and get lots of exposure, right? And I bought onesies that my mother hand-dyed and hand-painted to sell for $6.50 for those who couldn't afford the babies. So it's still good, right?

NO! This place was DEAD. No advertising, one sign, all cars parked in back (so it looked canceled) and the doors to the room were in the back (with no signs or balloons or anything showing where it was, so even if people did park they wouldn't have been able to find the room, only locked front doors).

There were about 10 other tables (some people had bought 2 tables, I just count them as 1) and they were disgusted too. There were about 30 people that showed up altogether, but most of them were friends and family of the people there. Only about SIX were customers. I sold ONE ONESIE!!!! that was IT. And 8 people took business cards.

I get more exposure and handing out of business cards by taking a baby to the grocery store! And I don't have to pay $20, plus all the money I put into the stuff for the display, not to mention a LOT of work.

Not a happy camper here. :( My poor babies need homes! I don't even have room for all these babies LOL

Hopefully they will find a home soon :) Like tonight at BK or tomorrow at the craft fair. The boy seems to be everyone else's fav, but this precious tiny girl is my fav - pictures just don't capture her complete sweetness!

Iris ready for adoption!

My preemie fairy Iris is finally ready for adoption. She passed the "how old is your baby" test yesterday with flying colors - everybody loved her and 2 ladies almost didn't let her go LOL

She will go up on the website, along with Louie and Alison, and the alien, tonight or tomorrow.

New baby girl

A new baby girl is ready for adoption, as soon as her paperwork is done and she has a name. :) Just a few more days, for me to do that and for her to take the "how old is your baby"test, and then she'll be on the website :)

Going to have a table at a local craft fair

The Annual Craft Fair, sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary, Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009, 9 A.M. to 3 P.M., rain or shine, in the hall at St. John’s Catholic Church, Old Branch Ave, Clinton, Maryland (around the corner from the fire house).

I am going to have a table in the craft fair, to show and sell whichever babies are not adopted by then.

Right now I currently have: Malakai, Emma, Louie, and the alien done. I have another fairy, an Asian preemie, and another painted hair baby in progress. I have 2 more babies planned - a yawning baby and a wigged toddler. I don't think I'll have time to make any more babies, but I have the week before the craft show off (no school!) so I'll have more time and I might get one more done, not sure.

Hope to see some of you there!

Louie ready for adoption

He is all ready to find his new home :) Louie will be put on my website - www.edenslittleones.com - as soon as he passes the "how old is your baby?" test tomorrow while running errands with me.

I loved painting his hair so much that I'm starting another baby with painted hair (this one open-eyed).

What's up right now

This the current fairy compared to the picture I used for her skin tones. I was doing a match except slightly less yellow hue.

Oh, so much is going on right now!

Just finished up rooting the alien baby, so he will be ready for adoption sometime next week. Also working on an asian preemie, about half-rooted so far. Also starting to root an AA fairy (here's a picture of her without hair).

Getting ready to start a yawning baby, going to be a blonde with painted baby fuzz instead of mohair.

All of this is circular, since I'm having problems with hair coming out. So I root some on a baby, seal it, and then work on something else while waiting for it to dry. Usually takes a day or two, so I currently have 3 babies in progress and one getting ready to start. I'm used to doing just one baby at a time, but the forked needles don't root as far in as regular needles, so they have to be sealed before turning the head to do another part. But it's worth it so far, for a nicer root. I got some new 46g crown needles that I am going to be using on my next rooted baby - can't wait to see how that turns out! :)

My first sculpted fairy ears

Well, I did my first sculpting today - adding fairy ears to a baby kit, so I can make her into a fairy. They didn't turn out like I was picturing in my head, but I was happy to discover that I could sculpt them at all. LOL The first one got burnt and the second hasn't been baked yet, but I'm experimenting. We'll see what happens - to the first, when it's baked again, and to the second because I painted it before baking. I was trying to get them roughly the same base color as the kit, to reborn them evenly, but they turned out darker. Oh well, I'm sure the baby will turn out in the end. Biggest problem is - supposed to be a girl fairy, but to me looks more like a boy elf!!

Malakai and Nikia up for adoption

Malakai and Nikia are on my website, up for adoption. Hope they find homes :)
They've passed the "how old is your baby" test several times over, and even met one little girl who just begged her mama for Malakai. Her mom was reluctant to give him back to me as well, LOL, but wasn't quite ready to spend the amount of the price.

So now I have a Caucasian fairy girl, the AA twins (boy and girl), and next weekend (I hope by then) I will have Asian twin preemies up for adoption on the website as well.

Coming up, sometime during the rest of this month and during the next month: the alien finished, an AA girl fairy, a strawberry blonde boy, a toddler girl, a baby for a kitty costume, a sweet vampire, and maybe one more. The month after that, November: two Hispanic preemie twins, a Native American boy, and several more babies. In Dec, I'll be doing at least one elf, a baby Santa, an angel baby, and the three wise men (different ethnicity for each).

So many babies, so much fun! :)

Reborn Styles - my first website gig

Well, I just finished my first website that I created for someone else. An excellent seamstress and friend, Chris, asked me to make a website for her and I happily said "YES!" lol
So here it is:

www.rebornstylesbychristine.com

The "Christine" page needs a paragraph about her still, but the rest is done.

Nothing fancy, since I don't know how to do flash or anything as such, and there were no templates bought, but it's nice and she likes it. So I am a happy camper :)

Alien baby boy

ok, here is the first of my usual babies for this year's Halloween. He still needs the rest of his silver hair and eyelashes rooted, but he's coming along :) I did him in a pale green, with dark green blushing and detailing. The tips of his nails are sparkle silver, and he also has silver sparkle genesis mixed in with his green, so his whole body has a little shimmer. The design that I created for him, I first did in a pale orange, but it looked pink when baked, so I went over it in the silver sparkle. He's gotten some strange responses from the family - "What is THAT?!" "Aw, he's cute!" and "Very weird" LOL

Halloween plans

I know, it's a little early, but I'm starting to make plans for Halloween.

First, planning the babies. I'm going to have 2 types of babies for Halloween. Regular babies and unusual babies.
My regular babies (whichever ones I still have unsold) will have on some cute costumes such as a dino or witch or whatever are the cutest ones I can find at a few stores I go to.
The unusual babies will be made to look like they have their faces painted, but it will be permanent and go with their costume. I'm thinking a green alien with dark green brows and hair, a cat, a fairy, and have a whole list but these are the "for sure" I'm doing.

All babies available (that haven't sold on my website) will be sitting with me in the "haunted garage" or along the driveway leading up to it. They will all have price tags on them, which will look a little creepy but be the real prices for all those parents who might fall in love with one.

I need to order more business cards, because I'm going to set some out in case anyone wants one (you know they will, I go through business cards like water LOL).

That's all the plans written down for now, but many more brewing in my head. I do major creepy and horror for Halloween decorations, but not for my babies. That just doesn't feel right to me. So the babies will be unique and sweet, but not horror.

First fairy in progress

The baby part is all painted, now I am working on her design. Gotta figure out the ears and hands, then root her :) Almost done!

Malakai is waiting, very patiently

Malakai is all done, just waiting for his twin sister to be done and to get his body. Who would have known that Sugar would make such a sweet little boy! He should have his body and be ready for adoption this coming weekend. :)

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Ok, now I'm going to do 2 fairies LOL

I was originally going to do the first design as a Caucasian baby, with blonde/strawberry blonde mix of hair, but now I am going to do it AA baby (light honey-chocolate coloring) and I'm not sure about the hair. Maybe silver highlights mixed with brown. I have some grayish silver hair that would look cool.

So now I am going to do 2 fairies - the AA baby fairy with the original design is going to come after the Caucasian baby fairy with my new design shown here. The Caucasian baby told me she needed a lighter scheme LOL. I will be starting her tomorrow :)

Friday, September 4, 2009

The fairy I'm starting on Monday.

On Monday I will be done rooting the twins and, while waiting for them to dry, will be starting my fairy. After much researching and painting various designs and colors, I've come up with the design and colors I will be using on my fairy. I am so excited about starting this fairy, esp since I've never seen a fairy decorated like this before and am excited to be doing something very different :) I'm going to use the flower design for a forehead crown-type thing and then the curlies and dots on the ear too. This one looks messy because it's a test head and I used air-dry gloss to cover the genesis so it doesn't come off. That way I don't have to bake it and can take off the stuff I don't like on the rest of the head. LOL

Few more things that I want to remember

I am using this blog as sort of a reborn diary, so today I am writing a few things I want to remember.

http://www.realistic-reborn-dolls.com/reborn-ethnic-dolls.html - an article I wrote, sometime between March and July of 2008 (this year lol), that was published on the Realistic Reborn Dolls website.

Also in early 2008 I was invited to do an artist display at the Prince George's County library (Clinton branch). I had a lot of fun getting things ready, creating poster boards showing how to create a reborn, and showing 2 of my babies (Jailynn and Eirin).

Well, back to rooting the twins! I did lower lashes for the first time today, on the Honey. They aren't styled yet, but I am very satisfied with my first time. :)

Custom girl done

Finished the custom baby tonight, just need to do the paperwork tomorrow :) She is such a cute little girl, I loved making her. She was done from the Jacob sculpt by Shawna Clymer, one of my favorite sculptors!

Applied for the PRA*ISE award

Well, I've come a long way from my first baby, so today I decided to apply for the PRA*ISE award. If I get it, it will confirm to me how very far I've come and if I don't then I'll get feedback telling me what I need to work on. It was quite a process, with 10 pics of 10 different babies (specific parts and sizes of photos) as well as 10 customer references, but it will be well worth it either way!

Here's a compare picture of my first reborn's face and my 27th reborn's face. Quite the difference! I am now working on my 32nd and 33rd (the Sugar and Honey AA twins) reborns. I decided that, after 30, was when I would apply.

At 40, I will apply for the Excellence in Reborn Artistry membership.

When I hit 100, I will apply for the Collii Award. The PRA*ISE is a big one, the Collii is huge.

If you know of any others, let me know :)

Trying something new

I went to start rooting the boy twin yesterday and discovered that I didn't have enough of the right color for both twins. The other 2 colors I had that were even close, one was too light and the other too dark. So I decided to try something new, that I have been wanting to try for a long time, but have been too busy with custom orders - combine 2 colors. The colors looked to be from the same angora goat, since they had the same wave, but one was jet black and the other medium brown. I put them together, the black over the brown, and rooted through both. Here's a picture of how it's going so far. It looks better in person, the combined colors give it a natural highlighting color variation. I did notice that, in a few places, one color was a bit more prominent than the other, so I will have to watch out for that while rooting, but all in all I like the look :)

Sugar and Honey coming along

Here's a pic of Sugar and Honey right now. Honey just needs 3 more layers, Sugar needs 7 more. Then they'll be ready to root!

Check out these eyes on Honey - these are the glass eyes from bountiful baby. I just love them! My first time using them, def NOT the last. I'll be using these a lot more now that I know how wonderful they look. Couldn't tell much from the picture on the site, but in a baby they look so real.
